| The Hurricanes Rugby League will be looking to enter a semi professional rugby league competition in the USA by May 2013. As part of the HRL long term athlete development plan, there will be 3 squads that are introduced, of which will be:
- Fulltime
- Part Time
- Academy
The fulltime squad will not take effect until November 2012, but in the meantime, there will be a senior training squad established to ensure that the Hurricanes have players that are learning what it is like to represent the franchise and to become familiar with each other and the coaching staff. This part time squad will receive assistance with weights, conditioning and speed programs and will assemble once a month for specialised skills sessions.
The Academy will feature players that are still attending school and they will come together for weekly skill sessions from the months of September-May. Currently the Academy features 12 players who are aged 14-19 of whom represent 7 schools that compete in the JRLA Schools Competition. The ideal situation will be to see this squad split into a Junior (14-16) and Senior (17-19) system, which would allow more specialised training based on a players physical and psychological maturity.
The number of players in each group will be determined by finances and supporters will have the chance to assist in the through 2 specific funds. For more information on how you can assist the development of the Senior or Academy squads click on one of the below links:
