Vauxhall and JDF secure wins

The Jamaica Rugby League Association’s 2011 National Championships continued on Saturday with the Vauxhall Vultures and Jamaica Defence Force securing vital wins.  Vauxhall defeated the Duhaney Park Red Sharks 34-16 in a torrid affair at Vauxhall High School. At half time the defending champions were already up 12-6 after scores out wide by speedsters Mohenjo Thompson and Andrew Simpson.  The Red Sharks hit back with a try from Winger Fabion Turner just before half time.

Vauxhall dug deep in the second half and racked up an addition 22 points, with Thompson scoring his hat-trick, and Everton Richards getting a double.  Thompson had an excellent day with the boot as well, kicking 5 conversions. The Red Sharks rallied late with two scores from Jospeh Shae and Ryan Grant. Kemoy Whyte kicked 2 conversions.

Across town, the Jamaica Defence Force overcame debutants Maxfield Park Star Steppers 37-12 at Up Park Camp.  The soldiers were led by giants Edgar Herbine and Brian Martin, who scored two tries each. They were supported by Orien Smith  and Ethon Dyer, each scoring one apiece. Jason Bineham slotted over 4 conversions and 1 drop goal.

For the Star Steppers, Allesandro Allen, Xavier Kerr and Andre Occonor each scored a try for a competitive Steppers team
